When I started writing my novel I decided ‘Silent Storm’ was pretty cool because it had a certain mystique about it, in addition to being descriptive of the central premise of the story. It was only after I finished writing, getting the copyright, etc. that I realized there are literally dozens of publications that have those two words in their titles. Many of them were even of the mushy Real Romance variety. I didn’t want my book to be confused with any of that.
Sigh. What to do? What to do?
Then I realized I could add a subtitle so that it appeared to be a continuation of the title and thus could distance my book from all the others; hence, Silent Storm Death Comes To De Soto was born. That still kept the main theme alive and even added a little more description to the title.
Of course since then, one more question has popped up, “Who is De Soto?” Of course, DeSoto is not a who, it’s a what. It’s a Parish in Louisiana. I’m definitely going to do a LOT more research and put a LOT more thought into naming my next book :>)
